Best Hikes and Walks on the North Coast

The North Coast’s dramatic cliffs, verdant glens and sandy beaches make it a hiker’s heaven.
Here are our favourite trails for all abilities.

Giant’s Causeway to Dunseverick Castle

Follow the clifftop path from the Giant’s Causeway to the ruins of Dunseverick Castle.  The route takes in sweeping views of basalt headlands and hidden sea stacks.  It’s particularly beautiful at sunrise when the columns glow orange.

Ballintoy to Whitepark Bay

This coastal walk starts at the quaint harbour of Ballintoy – a Game of Thrones filming location – and winds past limestone cliffs to Whitepark Bay.  Keep an eye out for nesting seabirds and fossilized ammonites along the beach .

Carrick‑a‑Rede & Larrybane

A short but spectacular trail leads from the car park to the Carrick‑a‑Rede Rope Bridge.  After crossing the swaying bridge, continue around Larrybane headland for panoramas of Rathlin Island and Scotland .

Dunluce Castle & Magheracross Viewpoint

Combine a visit to Dunluce Castle with a cliff‑top stroll to Magheracross Viewpoint.  The purpose‑built viewing platform offers panoramic views of the Causeway Coast .  On a clear day you can see Portrush’s White Rocks beach and the Skerries islands.

Binevenagh Mountain Trail

For a more challenging hike, tackle Binevenagh Mountain.  Its summit plateau is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with views over Lough Foyle and the Roe Valley.  Pack a picnic and enjoy paragliders soaring overhead.

Glenariff Forest Park Waterfall Walk

Located south of the coast in the Glens of Antrim, this trail meanders through lush woodland and beside cascading waterfalls.  It’s a refreshing contrast to the open cliffs and beaches and suits families.

Tips for Hikers

– Always wear sturdy footwear and layers – coastal weather changes quickly.

– Pack water and snacks; there are few facilities on remote trails.

– Check tide times for beach walks and avoid cliff edges in high winds.

After a day on the trails, relax in one of our cosy Nestled cottages.
