Somewhere proper to live while you cover the rota.
Furnished homes for locum doctors, nurses and allied health professionals working at Causeway Hospital and across the North Coast.
Bills included, no deposit, and a kitchen you can actually cook in after a late shift. Five to twenty minutes from the hospital.
Placed here for a few months? This is the part nobody helps with.
A placement gets arranged in a fortnight and somewhere to live is left to you. Hotels are expensive and wearing over months. Private rentals want twelve months, a deposit and a credit check for a job that finishes in March. Neither is built for the way locum work actually happens.
Locum Doctors
Consultants, registrars and SHOs covering rotas at Causeway Hospital and across the Northern Trust. Single occupancy or a couple, for the length of the placement.
Nurses & AHPs
Agency nursing, radiographers, physiotherapists and specialist staff on fixed-term contracts. Same arrangement, same terms.
Trusts & Agencies
Placing several people, or the same post repeatedly. We invoice you directly and hold accommodation while the paperwork moves.
How far you'll actually befrom Causeway Hospital.
Causeway Hospital sits on Newbridge Road, Coleraine, BT52 1HS. These are approximate drive times from each of the towns we have properties in — worth knowing before you accept a placement, not after.
| Town | Distance | Drive | What it's like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coleraine | 1.7 miles | about 5 minutes | Closest of all — the hospital sits on the edge of town. |
| Portstewart | 3.5 miles | about 10 minutes | Promenade, the Strand, and a straight run in along the A2. |
| Castlerock | 5 miles | about 12 minutes | Quiet, beach on the doorstep, direct train to Coleraine. |
| Portrush | 5.5 miles | about 12 minutes | The busiest of the coastal towns, and the best served for food. |
| Portballintrae | 9.5 miles | about 20 minutes | Small, quiet bay village between Portrush and Bushmills. |
| Bushmills | 10 miles | about 20 minutes | Village life, and the Causeway on your days off. |
Approximate road distances and typical off-peak drive times, rounded. Traffic on the A2 and through Coleraine adds a few minutes at shift-change times. Exact drive time is confirmed per property when we quote.
A note on the drive. Everything on this coast is close together, but the roads are rural and unlit in places. If you are coming off a night shift in January, ten minutes on the A2 is a different proposition to ten minutes in a city. We would rather say that plainly and put you somewhere that suits how you are actually working.
Three months in a hotel roomis a long three months.
For a night or two a hotel is fine. For a placement it stops working quickly, and it tends to stop working in the same ways every time.
Most stays runone to four months.
That is the shape that works, and it is worth being straight about why. We are a short-stay operator, not a letting agent. A placement of a few months is exactly what our properties are set up for — furnished, bills on, no tenancy paperwork, no deposit, and an end date that everyone agreed at the start.
Longer than that and it stops being self-catering accommodation and starts being something else, with a different insurance basis and different certification behind it. We look at longer stays case by case and we will give you an honest answer quickly, but a full twelve months is usually not something we can take on. If that is what you need, say so at enquiry and we will tell you within the day rather than leaving you hanging.
One to four months
The standard locum placement. Straightforward on both sides, and what the properties are built for.
Four to six months
Workable outside the summer, depending on the property and the dates. Worth asking — the answer is often yes from October.
A full year
Not usually something we can do. You would be better served by a letting agent, and we will say so rather than waste your time.
October through March is when we have most to offer you. The coast is quiet, availability is wide open and we can be far more flexible on length of stay. If your placement runs through the winter, you will get the best of what we have.
June to September is our busiest season and options are genuinely tighter. We can still usually help, but come to us early rather than a fortnight out.
Arrive with a bag,not a van.
- Heating, electricity and wi-fi — nothing to set up on arrival, nothing to close down when you leave
- Fully furnished and equipped — beds made up, kitchen usable from the first night
- Washing machine in every property
- No security deposit
- No tenancy agreement or credit check
- One point of contact — a real person, seven days a week, not a portal
- Fortnightly clean and fresh linen — optional, priced with your stay rather than included in it
- Direct invoicing — to your agency, trust or employer instead of to you
- Parking — varies by property and confirmed before you book
- Extending your stay — if the placement runs on, tell us early and we will try to hold it
Placing more than one person?
If you are filling the same post repeatedly, or placing several people at once, it is easier for everyone if the accommodation is arranged once rather than negotiated each time. We invoice you directly, hold properties while contracts are signed, and keep the same standard across every placement so nobody arrives to a surprise.
Invoiced to you
Billed to the agency, trust or employer rather than the individual. Purchase order references carried through where you need them.
Held while paperwork moves
Placements firm up late. We can hold accommodation for a reasonable window rather than releasing it the moment someone else asks.
Consistent standard
Same specification and same terms across every property, so you are not re-checking quality with each new placement.
Four steps,and no viewings.
Tell us the dates
Placement start and end, how many of you, and where you need to be. Ninety seconds on the form below.
We come back with options
What is genuinely free for your dates, with the drive time to the hospital and the full cost stated up front.
Confirm and pay
You, or your agency directly. No deposit, no tenancy agreement, no credit check.
Arrive
Keys, wi-fi code and a number that reaches an actual person if something goes wrong at eleven at night.
The things worthknowing first.
How far is your accommodation from Causeway Hospital?
Most of our properties sit between five and twenty minutes' drive of Causeway Hospital on Newbridge Road, Coleraine. Coleraine itself is about five minutes, Portstewart about ten, Castlerock and Portrush about twelve, and Portballintrae and Bushmills about twenty. Every property listing states its own drive time and we confirm it in writing when we quote.
How long can I stay?
Most of our locum placements run between one and four months, which is the length that suits both sides. We do look at longer stays case by case, but we are a short-stay operator rather than a letting agent, so a full twelve months is not usually something we can take on. Tell us your placement dates and we will tell you straight away whether we can cover them.
Are bills included?
Yes. Heating, electricity and wi-fi are included in the rate for locum stays, so there is nothing to set up when you arrive and nothing to close down when you leave. That is the practical difference between this and a private rental for a placement of a few months.
Is the property furnished?
Fully. Every property is let furnished and equipped, so you arrive with a bag rather than a van. Kitchens are set up for actual cooking, not just reheating, and there is a washing machine in every property.
Can I get cleaning and fresh linen during my stay?
Yes, that can be arranged on a fortnightly basis as an optional extra alongside your stay. It is not included in the standard rate — tell us at the point of booking and we will price it in.
Is there parking?
Parking varies by property and we confirm exactly what is available before you book. It matters more than most things for shift work, so we will not put you somewhere without telling you what the parking situation is.
Can my agency or trust be invoiced directly?
Yes. We can invoice a locum agency, a trust or an employer directly rather than the individual, and we can hold a placement while paperwork goes through. Tell us who is paying at enquiry stage and we will set it up that way from the start.
What is availability like through the year?
Best from October through to March. That is when the coast is quietest and when we have most flexibility on both availability and length of stay. Summer is our busiest season and options are tighter — if your placement falls between June and September, come to us as early as you can.
Can you take a booking at short notice?
Often, yes, particularly outside the summer. Locum placements are rarely planned far ahead and we are used to that. Send us the dates and we will tell you what is free rather than what we would like to sell you.
Working at Causeway Hospitaland need somewhere to live?
Tell us the placement dates. We'll come back with what's actually free.
Thanks — we've received your requirements.
